Maintenance tipsLight levels
Bright indirect light (can be natural or artificial light like flourescent lights) levels are required for your terrarium. Direct sunlight is to be avoided Trimming Removing dead leaves will keep your terrarium looking neat. Prune by cutting the stem to remove top leaves with a sharp pair of scissors Watering techniques Avoid pouring water into your garden as you are more likely to over water your plants this way. Use measured amounts of water using a straw or a tablespoon and gently release the water near the roots of the plants. This will minimize disturbance to the habitat. Generally, 3-4 tablespoons per watering should be sufficient for a mid sized terrarium (e.g. Doggy Forest) Watering frequency (Closed gardens) Due to it being a closed system, water loss is minimal. Thus, only water when there is an absence of condensation on the glass surface. If condensation is too heavy, remove the lid and wait for the mist to clear. Do ensure that you open the bottle once every two weeks to allow air to circulate. Generally, watering frequency is once every 1-2 months Watering frequency (Open gardens) As it is an open system, watering needs to be more frequent to replace evaporation. Water when soil appears dry. If there is insufficient water, the leaves will start drooping, in which case watering has to be done quickly. Generally watering frequency is once every 3-4 days (may be shorter or longer depending on climate) Good Luck! |
